Hoverboards Are Leading to Injuries
Children and teens across the country put a hoverboard on the top of their holiday gift wish list in 2015. If you purchased a hoverboard for your child or teenager, it’s important to know these wildly popular toys have been associated with serious injuries and hazards. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency has an ongoing investigation on hoverboard fires. Furthermore, major online retailer Amazon has indefinitely halted the sale of hoverboards due to numerous reports of fires and injuries.
Hoverboard Fires
Hoverboards are a hot toy – and many discovered just how hot when their hoverboard burst into flames with no warning. Some owners have even reported their hoverboard exploded or burned so quickly it damaged surrounding flooring and other property. Obviously, this is a serious problem that can result in devastating injuries, including burns and other trauma.
Falls from Hoverboards
Many people have also been injured after falling from a hoverboard. As many internet videos show, riding a hoverboard is challenging. It’s even more difficult to control one. Individuals have suffered broken bones, concussions, and even bruised organs after falling from a hoverboard. A Florida congressman fractured his arm after he fell from his daughter’s hoverboard. The congressman said his injury occurred when he rode the hoverboard toward the road. When a car approached, he panicked when he didn’t know how to avoid hitting the vehicle. His panic caused him to fall from the hoverboard and fracture his arm. If an adult can be easily injured, it’s not difficult to imagine just how dangerous these products are in the hands of a child or young person.
